Not able to get proper sleep is a very common problem. In our modern society, people sleep very late in nights. Various activities like late night work, late night parties, televisions, drugs, smoking etc keep us up very late. Next day we have to get up early for work and we are not able to get proper sleep. Deprivation of sleep causes various problems for mental health. Brain needs regular proper sleep and if we don’t sleep enough, brain doesn’t get enough rest to function optimally. Below are some points which can help you get proper sleep. Most of them are commonly known to people, but still most of the times, they are ignored.
Always sleep at a fixed time everyday and get up on a fixed time. Make it a habit. Body adjusts to these timings and you’ll always feel sleepy when the clock ticks bed-time. But, if you let these timings change everyday, you may never get proper sleep.
Avoid sleeping in day. Many people feel sleepy around afternoon but try to avoid it or take a very short nap. If you sleep in day, you can’t sleep properly in night.
Avoid caffeine products like coffee, chocolate etc before bed time. Caffeine stimulates brain and will not let you sleep.
Always use bed for sleep only and not for work and other activities. This way body knows bed is for sleeping.
Don’t take worries to bed. Try to stop thinking and relax after going to bed.
Try to do some yoga, deep breathing exercises to help you relax.
Try to sleep in a noiseless environment and put off all the lights.
